tropical floor plant's health continues to decline despite my inactivity regarding its pending death

final assignment

my english teacher instructed me to write my essays on subjects i feel something for, be it love, hate, or otherwise, so as to get feeling into my work. i see no reason why the same shouldn't hold true for my photography. so, for this last assignment i will document what i call "real food." i grew up in a home where fast food was the norm. now i am concerned about where the food comes from that i feed to my husband and children. with this project i will show, start to finish, where some of my favorite foods come from, how they go from form a to end product z.

The photo by Eggleston of the car chained to the telephone pole makes me wonder about life in Louisiana- was it plagued by theivery so much that people had to resort to chaining their car? The colors in this photo give off a somber mood, with the muted aquamarine car and beiges in the cement, the only bright spot is the tail lights. My eyes stop imediately on them before I can continue looking further into the photograph. I have to wonder what Eggleston was thinking as he shot the Los Alamos group of photos. Alot of photographers focused ( and still do ) on the beautiful things, people, and places. I think he wanted to document a more normal view of people and what they see in dailey life.

the problem with technology...

is that sometimes I have no idea how it works, and then what to do with it when it doesn't!

Tropical Floor Plant

Ok, so here it is. My photo of the dying plant in the Arts and Sciences building. The dull yellow leaves are from watering too much in the past, while the droop of the green leaves is caused by the present lack of water. I feel a pressing need to take over the care of this poor plant...

Questions...

Ok, so after last nights lecture on digital cameras and how they work, I am left with two questions:
1) How does the sensor "see" yellow?
2) What would the image look like if you peeled the Bayer Pattern Filter off of the sensor?

I can understand how it can see brown,purple, orange, etc. because they are all made up from the primary colors, but yellow itself is a primary color and no amount of mixing red, green and blue is going to make yellow.
Is there some way to peel that filter thing off the sensor so I can see what happens?

Power of Still Photography

It is said that a photograph is worth a thousand words. That is a good thing for me since I'm not good with words. Photographs can speak when we humans stand around toung-tied. They bring out emotions otherwise unexpressed. Moments that would be so easily forgotten instead are preserved indefinately.

Course Expectations

I expect to learn how to use my digital camera that seems to be a complete stranger to me, even after thousands of photographs. Also, I would like to further develop my skills as a photographer. Getting an A would be the icing on the cake.
